Horticulture

The Horticulture Program serves a broad audience with a multitude of needs. LU provides horticulture educational activities for commercial growers and marketers, urban gardeners, master gardeners and youths.

Nearly 1,200 commercial vegetable growers in Missouri benefit from the Extension vegetable production program. Horticulture clients receive the Vegetable Growers Newsletter and benefit from meetings, correspondence and farm visits that answer their production and marketing questions.

By using PEST-BANK, the National Pesticide Information Retrieval System database, growers and University Extension specialists receive information on the application of registered pesticides designed for use on their specific crops.

Applied research in the area of horticulture is conducted year-round at LU farms in Jefferson City and the Bootheel to evaluate optimal growing climates for various fruits and vegetables.
